How to Care for a Hanging Frog

Watering the Hanging Frog

Water your hanging plant in the Frog Plant Hanger regularly, but avoid allowing the pot to remain too wet. Allow excess water to drain through a small hole in the inner pot, or use hydroponic clays such as the potting soil accessory . Too much water can cause root rot, while too little water results in wilting and dry leaves. Check the moisture weekly by pressing your finger one to two centimeters into the potting soil.

Light and location for the Hanging Frog

Place the Frog Hanging Plant in a location with bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can cause burnt leaves and discolored leaf edges. A spot near an east- or west-facing window is ideal to provide plenty of soft daylight. Avoid dark corners; many hanging plants, such as pothos or scindapsus , thrive in at least three hours of diffused daylight per day.

Common problems

Yellow leaves

Yellow leaves often indicate either too much or too little water. Soil that's too wet can cause root rot, while potting soil that's too dry can cause the plant to dry out. Adjust watering and ensure the pot drains well.

Drops under the pot

Damp drops under the pot can indicate overwatering or a clogged drainage hole. Check if the inner pot has a drainage hole and allow excess water to drain. Consider using a small amount of Leca balls at the bottom to retain water without becoming soggy.

Unwanted critters

Spider mites, mealybugs, or fungus gnats can attack your hanging plant. Regularly inspect the undersides of leaves and the potting soil. Treat with a natural spray or use sticky traps for fungus gnats for a simple solution.

Roots coming out from the bottom

When roots grow out the bottom of the pot, it's time to repot. Choose a slightly larger pot from our pots-for-houseplants collection. This will give the plant more space and prevent root suffocation.

Brown edges on leaves

Brown edges are often caused by dry air or irregular watering. Increase the humidity with a plant sprayer or humidifier. For example, place a moss stick in the pot or place a bowl of water near the plant.
