How to care for a Monstera Minima

Watering Monstera Minima

Proper watering is crucial for a healthy Monstera Minima. Water the plant moderately and wait until the top layer of potting soil feels dry before watering again. Too much water can cause root rot, while too little water leads to dry, brown leaf edges. For tips on watering and general care, you can also read our blog post: " The Monstera Guide ."

Monstera Minima light

The Monstera Minima prefers bright, indirect light. Place it near an east- or west-facing window, for example, but avoid bright midday sun, which can burn the leaves. It will also continue to grow in slightly darker corners, although the leaf markings may be less pronounced. Read more about light requirements in our blog post " How much light does a Monstera need ?"

Is the Monstera Minima poisonous?

The Monstera Minima belongs to the Araceae family, most members of which are mildly toxic to pets and children. Ingestion may cause oral irritation and stomach upset. Therefore, keep pets and children away from freshly cut leaves or twigs. For non-toxic alternatives, please see our collection of " non-toxic houseplants ."

Common problems

Yellow leaves

Yellow leaves can indicate either too much water or too little nutrients. First, check the moisture in the potting soil. Adjust your watering and provide a balanced plant food every 4–6 weeks. Also read our tips on white and yellow leaves in the blog post " Caring for your plant's leaves ."

Plant dripping water

If droplets appear on new or older leaves, the Monstera Minima has likely received too much water or the humidity is too high. Allow the potting soil to dry out slightly and reduce the humidity. Ensure good air circulation by not placing the plant too close to walls or in a stuffy corner.

Plagues

Spider mites, thrips, and scale insects can also be attracted to your Monstera Minima. Regularly inspect the undersides of the leaves. Rinse the plant with lukewarm water and, in the case of a larger infestation, treat with an organic pesticide or our Sticky Traps for fungus gnats .

Carrots come out of the pot

Aerial roots are normal in aroids, but if the root system is too cramped, your Monstera Minima will grow less quickly. Repot in a slightly larger pot and add fresh potting soil. Read more about aerial roots in " What to do with your Monstera's aerial roots ."

Brown edges

Brown edges are caused by dry air, insufficient watering, or direct sunlight. Increase humidity by using a plant mister or placing a humidifier nearby. Maintain indirect light and adjust your watering schedule so the soil never dries out completely.
