Grow pots are the ideal solution for easily rooting new cuttings. These compact pots offer ample space for root growth and maintain moisture levels so your cuttings develop optimally. Thanks to the transparent material, you can see exactly when you need to refill the water and how the roots are forming.
How to care for a Growing Pot
Watering Growing Pots
The growing pots themselves don't need water, but your cuttings do. Fill the growing pot to just below the rim with lukewarm water and refresh it weekly to prevent mold. Ensure there's always a thin layer of water so the young roots have constant access to moisture without drowning.
Light for Grow Pots
Growing pots thrive in bright, indirect light. Place them on a windowsill away from direct sunlight, for example, next to your Monstera Deliciosa or Ficus Lyrata. Too much direct sunlight can quickly heat up the root water and damage the cutting; too little light slows root growth.
Frequently occurring problems
Yellow leaves
Yellow leaves on your cutting may indicate water that is too cold or not enough nutrients. Use room-temperature tap water instead, and add a weak nitrogen-rich solution if necessary. Check the water quality weekly to prevent scale and algae growth.
Plant is dripping or too wet
If your cutting is constantly submerged in water, it can cause root rot. Provide a layer of water just below the base of the roots and allow excess water to drain after a day. You can place your growing pot on a repotting mat to prevent leaks.
Plagues
Fungus gnats and water lice can also occur in growing pots. Catch fungus gnats with our sticky traps . Rinse your cutting and pot if you see any pests and change the water more often.
Roots emerge from the soil
Don't worry: this is a good sign of healthy root growth. Once the roots reach the bottom of the pot, you can transplant the cutting to a pot with airy potting soil . Our blog post on preventing root rot will help you get started.
Brown edges on the leaves
Brown edges often indicate an environment that is too dry or too warm. Maintain a humidity of at least 50%, for example, with a plant sprayer . Also, avoid drafts and never place the growing pot directly near a radiator.
Are Growing Pots Poisonous?
Grow pots are completely harmless: they contain no chemicals that can leach into the water. They're also reusable and easy to clean, so you can always grow new cuttings without risk to humans or animals. See our FAQ for more information.
