How to Care for a ZZ Raven
Watering at ZZ Raven
Water your ZZ Raven moderately, allowing the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Oversaturated potting soil can quickly lead to root rot, so it's better to underwater than overwater. This plant responds well to drought and doesn't show any immediate signs of stress. Are you experiencing low humidity? Combine your watering with a gentle misting from your plant sprayer to keep the area slightly moist.
Light for ZZ Raven
ZZ Raven thrives in partial shade to indirect sunlight. Direct afternoon sun can burn the leaves, so place the plant about two meters from a window. A spot with filtered light or morning sun is ideal. It also thrives in darker corners of your interior, although its growth will be somewhat slower. If you're looking for a brighter spot, check out our Aglaonema Silver Bay for a variety of leaf colors.
Frequency of problems and solutions
Yellow leaves
Yellow leaves are often caused by overwatering or poor drainage. Check that excess water can drain through the drainage holes and, if necessary, enrich the potting mix with perlite for better aeration. Remove affected leaves to stimulate new growth. Read more about root rot in our blog post .
Plant leaking drops
Sometimes, in warm weather or direct sunlight, you may see droplets on the leaves; this is called guttation and is harmless. It means the plant is losing excess moisture. If severe guttation occurs, reduce fertilizer and adjust watering. A hygrometer can help you adjust the conditions better.
Plagues
Soft-bodied insects like spider mites or thrips can hide among the leaves. Regularly inspect under the leaves and treat with our jungle mist spray when the infestation begins. For more severe infestations, you can safely move your plants and use an organic pesticide.
Roots growing out of the pot
When roots emerge from the bottom of the pot, it's time to repot. Choose a pot one size larger and use fresh, airy potting soil such as our potting soil for aroids . This gives the roots room to grow and improves drainage.
Brown edges on leaves
Brown edges often indicate overly dry air or too much direct sunlight. Increase the humidity by regularly using a plant mister or place the plant on a moist hydroponic tray. Also, provide filtered light and avoid hot drafts.
