How to care for a Syngonium Arrow
Watering the Syngonium Arrow
The Syngonium Arrow prefers a regular watering schedule, but not soggy roots. Allow the top layer of potting soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. It's best to use a special potting soil for aroids, such as our potting soil for syngoniums 5l, to maintain optimal water balance.
Light for the Syngonium Arrow
A spot with bright, indirect light is best for your Syngonium Arrow. Too little light will result in weak, elongated shoots, while bright sunlight can burn the leaves. Want some variety? Also check out our Monstera Minima or Aglaonema Silver Bay for other light requirements and growth habits.
Is the Syngonium Arrow poisonous?
Yes, the Syngonium Arrow contains calcium oxalate crystals and is mildly toxic if ingested. Keep the plant out of reach of curious pets and children. For a non-toxic option, consider our non-toxic houseplants that are safe for pets.
Different types of Syngonium
There are numerous variations within the Syngonium family. Each type has its own leaf markings and growth guarantee:
- Syngonium podophyllum 'Neon'
- Syngonium podophyllum 'Albo Variegatum'
- Syngonium podophyllum 'Pink Allusion'
- Syngonium podophyllum 'White Butterfly'
- Syngonium wendlandii
- Syngonium auritum
- Syngonium magnifolium
For optimal growth, choose potting soil for syngoniums (5l) or our extensive collection of potting soil and accessories.
Common problems
Yellow leaves
Yellow leaves on the Syngonium Arrow often indicate overwatering or insufficient light. Check the moisture content of the potting soil and adjust your watering schedule. If necessary, move the plant closer to a window, but avoid direct sunlight to prevent scorching.
Plant dripping
Moisture droplets on the leaves are called guttation. This is a natural process when indoor humidity is high and the plant absorbs water at night. Ventilate the room slightly or temporarily reduce the humidity to limit excess moisture.
Plagues
Spider mites, thrips, and aphids can occasionally attack Syngonium Arrow. Rinse the leaves regularly with lukewarm water and, if necessary, use sticky traps to repel fungus gnats. For persistent pests, our jungle mist spray offers a solution.
Carrots coming out of the pot
When the roots grow out of the bottom of the pot, it's time to repot. Choose a pot one size larger and add 5 liters of fresh potting soil for syngoniums. This will give the roots enough room to develop healthily.
Brown edges on the leaves
Brown edges often occur due to overly dry air or irregular watering. Increase the humidity around your plant with a plant mister or place a bowl of water nearby. Try combining your Syngonium Arrow with an Asplenium parvati to keep the humidity nicely balanced.
