Combine it with a pot from our collection of houseplant pots to create a stylish hanging table or window corner.
Maintaining the Monkey Plant Hanger is surprisingly easy. Simply attach it to the ceiling or a sturdy hook on the wall, add potting soil or hydroponic clays, and place your plant inside. How to Care for a Monkey Plant Hanger
Watering the Plant Hanger Monkey
Water your Monkey Plant Hanger regularly, keeping the potting soil slightly moist. Check the top layer with your finger at least once a week to see if it feels dry. Overwatering can cause excess moisture to drain through the open bottom, so use a drip tray or a pot with a drip tray. For extra drainage, add a layer of hydro pebbles to the bottom of the pot.
Light for Plant Hanger Monkey
Place your Monkey Plant Hanger in a spot with bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can discolor the top of the pot or brown the climbing plant. Too little light will cause your plant to grow lanky and lose its healthy appearance. Vary the position to prevent lopsided growth, or move your plant to a spot near a window with filtered light.
Common Problems with a Plant Hanger Monkey
Yellow leaves
Yellow leaves are often caused by too much water or too little nutrients. First, check that the pot isn't constantly sitting in wet soil. Then, water according to the dry-moisture cycle, adding a splash of nutrient solution every two or three waterings. Remove damaged leaves to conserve the plant's energy.
Pot overflows and plant drips
If you water too much at once, it can seep out around the edges. Fill a drip tray or use a pot with a drip tray from our plant accessories . Water in smaller amounts, but more frequently. This keeps the potting soil moist without wasting too much.
Pests
Small insects like spider mites, aphids, or fungus gnats are often invisible until you see them with the naked eye. Check under the leaves and between the shoots every time you water. Treat pests with our sticky traps for fungus gnats or use a mild spray from the store. For advice, read our blog post on identifying and controlling pests .
Roots emerge from the bottom
Once the roots start pushing out from under the potting soil, your plant needs a larger pot. Switch to a pot 2 to 4 cm larger in diameter. Add fresh, airy potting soil and check that the plant stays securely in the Monkey Plant Hanger. This will allow your plant to grow freely again.
Brown edges on leaves
Brown leaf edges often indicate overly dry air or too much direct sunlight. Increase the humidity by spraying regularly, or place a bowl of water under the pot. Place your hanging plant a little further from the window and provide filtered daylight. Also check out our tips in the blog post about 5 tips to increase humidity in your home .
