The lesser known and somewhat rougher brother of the well-known Pancake Plant . The Pilea Moon Valley owes its name to its beautiful leaves that sometimes resemble valleys and craters that you can find on the moon. It is also sometimes called the friendship plant. It is easy to propagate, so you can give it as a gift to friends and family. It makes its own friends, easy right?

It doesn't get big, usually it grows to about 30cm. Not that big but unique!

How do you care for the Pilea Moon Valley?

How much water do you give the Pilea Moon Valley?

The Pilea Moon Valley likes a constantly slightly moist soil. In the summer months, make sure that the soil does not dry out completely. In the warmer months, give it some water every 4 to 5 days. In the colder winter months, you can safely leave a little more time between this and you can safely let it dry out a little. Here you can learn more about how to care for plants in the summer .

As with most plants, make sure that it does not stand with its feet in the water for too long. It does not do well with this and its roots can start to rot.

How much light does the Pilea Moon Valley need?

The Moon Valley does like a light spot but be careful with direct sunlight. Its leaves can't handle it very well and burn spots can appear on the leaves. A little morning or evening sun won't do much harm but be careful with the midday sun. It can get very hot, especially behind a window.

It is also best to turn it a quarter turn when you water it. This way it stays nicely filled on all sides and it stays nice and straight.

The humidity of the Pilea Moon Valley

The Moon Valley is a slightly more tropical variant of the Pancake Plant. This makes it more susceptible to low humidity. Always try to keep the humidity above 50%. Be careful in the winter with a location that is too close to a heater, stove or fireplace. The air here is very dry.

Can you prune the Pilea Moon Valley?

Older plants can look a bit bare at the bottom. If you prune it occasionally, you will stimulate new leaf growth and ensure that your plant continues to look nice and full.

How to propagate the Pilea Moon Valley cuttings?

The Moon Valley is easy to propagate. You cut off a piece with at least 3 leaves and stick it in moist potting soil. It is best to tie a transparent plastic bag around it so that you create a high humidity and thus promote root growth. After about a month there should already be quite a few roots on it.

Is Pilea Moon Valley poisonous?

Most Pilea Moon Valley is non-toxic. Completely safe for your loyal four-legged friends or small children.

Origin
