How to Care for a Pachira Aquatica (Money Tree)
Watering for Pachira Aquatica (Money Tree)
The Pachira Aquatica (Money Tree) prefers even moisture but doesn't tolerate a soaked root ball well. Water generously about once a week and wait until the top layer of potting soil feels slightly dry. Less watering is sufficient in winter, as the plant is dormant and evaporation decreases. For added convenience, you can opt for an elho watering can 1.5l .
Light requirements of the Pachira Aquatica (Money Tree)
A Pachira Aquatica (Money Tree) thrives in bright, indirect light. Ideally, place the plant near an east- or west-facing window so it receives sufficient light without burning its leaves. If the light is insufficient, the leaves will grow narrower and the trunk may appear less full. For dark corners, consider a ZZ plant or a Sansevieria Zeylanica to add to your plant collection.
Common problems and solutions
Yellow leaves
Yellow leaves are often caused by overwatering or insufficient light. Check the moisture content of the potting soil with a moisture tester or by simply feeling the root surface with your finger. Move the plant to a brighter location and adjust the watering schedule; allow the top 2 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. For tips on proper watering, you can also read our blog post about what to do about root rot .
Plant leaking moisture
Sap foaming or leaking is usually the result of damaged stems or overwatering. Check carefully for cracks in the stem or at the base of the leaves. Treat damaged areas with a clean knife and let the wound dry before watering the plant again. Also, check out our range of sticky traps for fungus gnats if you're concerned about fungus gnats or insects.
Plagues
Spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs can affect the Pachira Aquatica (Money Tree), especially when humidity is low. Inspect the undersides of the leaves weekly and treat pests immediately with an organic spray or consider our jungle mist spray for preventative spraying. Maintain humidity with a humidifier or place the plant on a tray with hydro grains.
Carrots come out of the pot
When the roots escape from the bottom of the pot, it's time to repot. Choose a pot one size larger and fill it with airy potting soil for aroids. Trim away any uncontrolled roots and gently spread the root ball. Our 5L potting soil for aroids is ideal for this.
Brown edges on the leaves
Brown edges are caused by excessively dry air or irregular watering. Maintain a constant humidity by spraying regularly or using a humidifier. Water at room temperature to prevent root shock and avoid sudden temperature fluctuations.
