Many plant experts combine cat grass with other easy-care plants to create a playful look. Think of the slender stems of the Monstera Minima or the striking leaves of the Aglaonema Silver Bay . For a tropical ambiance, an Alocasia Zebrina or Ficus Lyrata complements your cat grass perfectly. Combine them in attractive pots for houseplants and create a green oasis in your home.
How to care for a Cat Grass
Watering for Cat Grass
Cat grass prefers slightly moist potting soil without standing water. Water lightly about once a week and check the topsoil regularly. In warm weather or strong sunlight, you can water more frequently, but avoid overwatering. Also see our tips in the blog post about preventing root rot .
Light requirements for cat grass
Cat grass grows best in bright, indirect light. A spot in an east- or west-facing window is ideal for getting plenty of sunshine. Avoid the harsh midday sun, which can burn the grass. Give your plants a boost with our jungle mist spray for extra humidity.
Common problems
Yellow leaves
Yellow shoots usually indicate soil that is either too wet or too dry. Check your watering and adjust it slightly. Remove any severely affected shoots to allow fresh, new growth to take over.
Plant leaking moisture
If your potting soil feels very wet or you see moisture around the edges, you're overwatering. Let the top layer dry out for a day and don't water again until the soil has dried out slightly. Make sure you use a pot with good drainage, such as our basic pots with holes .
Unwanted guests: pests
Fungus gnat larvae or larvae can live in very moist potting soil. Sprinkle some sticky traps against fungus gnats on the soil. Reduce watering until the soil is no longer soaking wet when watering.
Roots growing out of the pot
When the roots start to emerge from the bottom, it's time to repot your cat grass. Choose a slightly larger pot and fresh potting soil, such as potting soil for aroids . This will give the plant enough room to develop healthily again.
Brown edges on the leaves
Brown edges are often caused by low humidity or too much direct sunlight. Move the pot to a slightly less sunny spot and increase the humidity with a plant mister. See our 5 tips for increasing humidity for more ideas.
