How to care for a Calathea White Fusion

Watering Calathea White Fusion

The Calathea White Fusion prefers even moisture in its potting mix. Water the potting mix as soon as the top centimeter feels slightly dry, and avoid allowing the plant to constantly sit in water. Preferably use water with a low-limescale content or filtered tap water to prevent brown leaf edges.

Light requirements of Calathea White Fusion

Calatheas from the Marantaceae family, such as the White Fusion, thrive in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as this can burn the leaves and cause spots on the white parts. Ideally, place the plant near an east- or west-facing window, or use a bright bedroom or bathroom with natural light.

Common problems with Calathea White Fusion

Yellow leaves

Yellow leaves can indicate either too much or too little water. Check the humidity regularly and adjust your watering routine. Consult the tips in our blog about root rot in houseplants to determine if your plant is overwatered.

Plant leaking or dripping

If your Calathea is releasing drops of moisture, the humidity is probably too low. Increase the humidity by placing a bowl of water nearby or using a humidifier. Read our guide: 5 tips to increase humidity in your home for more advice.

Pests

Spider mites, thrips, and mealybugs love to nest on the veins of Calathea leaves. Inspect your plants weekly and, if in doubt, treat with our sticky traps for fungus gnats or a gentle plant mist. Aphids can be easily rinsed off with lukewarm water or an environmentally friendly spray.

Roots emerge from the bottom of the pot

If the roots grow out of the bottom of the pot, your Calathea White Fusion needs a larger pot. Repot it in a pot one size larger and also replace the top layer of potting soil. Use potting soil from the Potting Soil for Aroids collection for optimal drainage.

Brown edges on the leaf margin

Brown edges often indicate an overly dry environment or too much limescale in your water. Avoid direct sunlight and increase humidity. Water with rainwater or filtered water to reduce buildup and edge discoloration.
