How to care for Potting Soil for Cacti & Succulents 5L
Watering Potting Soil for Cacti & Succulents 5L
Watering cacti and succulents revolves around controlling the amount of water and avoiding stagnant water. Only water when the top layer of Potting Soil for Cacti & Succulents 5L has completely dried out, which can take anywhere from one to three weeks. During the growing season in spring and summer, you can water more frequently, but always keep the drainage hole in the pot free of sediment. For additional air circulation, the potting soil mix contains perlite; read more about this ingredient in our blog post "What is Perlite ?"
Light for Potting Soil for Cacti & Succulents 5L
A sunny location is ideal for plants grown in this potting soil mix. Place your cactus or succulent in a spot with at least three to five hours of direct sunlight per day. Combining it with Potting Soil for Cacti & Succulents 5L will help maintain a stable moisture balance, even in bright sunlight. Remember to rotate your plant occasionally so that all sides receive even light.
Common problems with Potting soil for cacti & succulents 5L
Yellow leaves
Yellow leaves usually indicate overwatering or insufficient light. Check if the soil is still too wet and only water when it feels dry. Place the plant near a bright window or use a plant lamp for additional lighting.
Plant dries out and starts dripping
During long dry spells, the plant can extract moisture from its leaves, causing water droplets. This is a normal defense mechanism but can occur too frequently if the humidity is too low. Consider using a container with hydroponic clays or a plant mister to keep the air around the plant moist.
Plagues
Spider mites, mealybugs, and thrips can nest in the leaf axils. Inspect your plant weekly and remove pests manually with a damp cotton swab. For persistent infestations , sticky traps for fungus gnats are an effective solution.
Roots growing out of the pot
If roots are visibly protruding from the drainage hole, it means the plant needs root space. Repot your cactus or succulent in a slightly larger pot with fresh 5L Potting Soil for Cacti & Succulents. Make sure the new pot has drainage holes, possibly combined with a layer of hydroponic clays.
Brown edges on leaves
Brown edges can be caused by a lack of water, drafts, or excessive artificial light. Check the light source for strength and distance, and avoid cold drafts from windows or doors. During hot periods, water more frequently, in small doses, to prevent the edges from drying out.
