How to take care of a flower box subscription
Watering for Flower Box Subscription
A planter subscription requires proper water management to keep all your plants healthy. Check the top layer of potting soil weekly: if the top layer is moist, you can safely add some water. Prevent the planter from standing water by draining off any excess water. For best results, use our 1.5L elho watering can and, for extra drainage, add a layer of hydro grains or perlite.
Light for Flower Box subscription
A good location ensures vibrant color and strong growth in your planter. Place your planter in a spot with bright, indirect light to prevent scorching. Be sure to avoid direct midday sun in summer, as it can cause even the most delicate flowers to wilt. In winter, a bright windowsill is often sufficient; more light can be provided with a plant mister or a custom-made reflector.
Frequently occurring problems
Yellow leaves
Yellow leaves often indicate too much or too little water. Check that the potting soil doesn't remain constantly wet, but certainly doesn't dry out either. Adjust the watering frequency and avoid cold drafts. If the roots were too wet, it's best to repot the plant in fresh potting soil and hydroponic clays.
Plant drips
Sometimes you see small droplets on the edges of leaves: guttation. This is normal in high humidity and at night. You don't need to do anything as long as the soil isn't soaking wet. To prevent condensation, provide a slightly cooler room or some air circulation.
Plagues
A subscription with various varieties can occasionally attract minor pests, such as spider mites or fungus gnats. Check your plants weekly and remove loose leaves. For fungus gnats, our sticky traps help minimize their population. Consider a mild organic insecticide for stubborn cases.
Carrots go at the bottom of the container
If the roots are pushing against the bottom of the container, your planter has become too small. Repot your plants in a larger container or divide them into individual pots. You'll find handy racks and pots in our pots-for-houseplants collection. This gives the roots enough room to grow.
Brown edges on leaves
Brown edges often result from low humidity or direct sunlight. Increase humidity with a plant sprayer, spraying in the morning or evening. Also avoid hot, dry areas near radiators. You can also occasionally wipe down the plants with a microfiber dusting mitt.
