The Asplenium Parvati is an elegant fern with deep green, slightly wavy fronds that instantly brightens up any space. This unique fern variety is known for its luxurious appearance and relatively easy care. For beginning plant enthusiasts, the Asplenium Parvati is an excellent choice for developing initial fern growing skills without too much stress.

How to care for an Asplenium Parvati

Light

The Asplenium Parvati thrives in a spot with indirect, filtered light. Direct sunlight can burn the fragile leaves, while a completely dark corner will slow growth. Place your fern near an east- or north-facing window, for example, or choose a spot where you'll also find plants from our " Shade Plants " collection.

Watering

The Asplenium Parvati prefers even moisture and will appreciate regular watering. Check weekly that the top of the potting mix is slightly moist, but avoid standing water to prevent root rot. You can also increase the humidity by spraying or placing a tray of hydro grains and water under the pot; read more in our blog post " 5 tips for increasing humidity in your home ."

Common problems

Yellow leaves

Yellow leaves on your Asplenium Parvati often indicate too much direct light or irregular watering. Check that the plant isn't in bright midday sun and adjust the watering accordingly. Regular dusting of the leaves also helps prevent aphids and spider mites.

Plant drips

Sometimes you'll see droplets of water on the leaves of the Asplenium Parvati; this natural phenomenon is called guttation. It occurs because the roots absorb moisture and release excess water through the leaf margins. As long as the potting soil isn't soaked, there's no need to worry.

Plagues

For pests like spider mites or thrips, a thorough inspection is necessary. Move the plant to a quiet spot and treat it with a natural spray or sticky traps for fungus gnats . For persistent pests, switch to an insecticide for houseplants.

Roots come at the bottom

If roots are growing out of the drainage holes, the Asplenium Parvati is too small for its pot. Repot the plant in a slightly larger pot, such as one of our " houseplant pots ." Use fresh potting soil suitable for ferns or aroids to prevent root rot.

Brown edges on the leaves

Brown edges are often caused by excessively dry air or irregular watering. Increase the humidity using a plant sprayer or humidifier. Avoid cold drafts and, if necessary, add vermiculite to the potting mix to improve moisture management.
