How to care for an Aglaonema Silver Bay

Watering Aglaonema Silver Bay

Aglaonema Silver Bay prefers even moisture in the potting mix. Water as soon as the top layer of soil feels slightly dry, but avoid allowing it to sit in a constant layer of water. Too much water can cause root rot, while too little water leads to wilting of the leaves. For a pleasant experience, we recommend misting the plant with a plant sprayer to slightly increase the humidity around it.

Light requirements Aglaonema Silver Bay

The Aglaonema Silver Bay is native to the shady tropics and thrives in indirect light. A spot out of direct sunlight prevents leaf burn and promotes the characteristic silver-green markings. Place the plant next to a north- or east-facing window, for example, where it will receive ample daylight without direct sunlight. Common problems with Aglaonema Silver Bay

Yellow leaves

Yellow leaves often indicate either too much or too little water. Check that the potting soil isn't too wet or too dry and adjust your watering routine accordingly. Insufficient light can also lead to yellowing; in that case, give your Silver Bay a little more indirect light. Plant dripping

If water droplets appear on or under the plant, this could indicate overwatering or a clogged saucer. Ensure good drainage by adding hydroponic clays to the pot and remove excess water after watering. Consider using a pot with holes and a saucer from our collection of flower pots-for-sale-in-Leuven. This will keep the root zone healthy.

Plagues

Spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids can attack your Aglaonema Silver Bay if the humidity is too low. Increase the humidity by spraying regularly and check the undersides of the leaves for pests. If an infestation occurs, you can opt for organic pest control with neem oil or our sticky traps for fungus gnats. Read more about natural pest control in our article at deplantrekkers.com/pages/faq.

Roots emerge from the soil

If the roots are sticking out of the bottom of the pot, the plant needs to be repotted. Choose a pot one size larger and fresh potting soil for aroids. If necessary, trim off some of the overgrown roots to keep the growth balanced. After repotting, your Aglaonema Silver Bay will quickly recover and develop new shoots.

Brown leaf edges

Brown edges usually result from overly dry air or uneven watering. Maintain the humidity with a houseplant bubbler or regular misting. Also, make sure you're not using hard water lime; filtered or lukewarm water can prevent this. For additional tips on humidity, see our blog post on 5 tips to increase humidity in your home.
