How to care for a Sansevieria Zeylanica

Watering Sansevieria Zeylanica

Do not water your Sansevieria Zeylanica until the soil feels completely dry.
In spring and summer this is usually once every two to three weeks.
In autumn and winter, once a month is sufficient.
Too much water easily leads to root rot, a common problem among impatient caretakers.

Light for Sansevieria Zeylanica

This plant does best in bright, indirect light.
It also survives well in a place with limited sunlight, for example in a corner near your desk.
Avoid bright midday sun, as this can cause yellow spots on the leaf edges.

Common problems

Yellow leaves

Yellow leaves often indicate overwatering or a sudden change in temperature.
Check the moisture of the potting soil and adjust your watering.
Place the plant in a stable place, away from draughts and heat.

Plant drips

If water seeps from the pot, the underground drainage may be clogged.
Use a pot with holes or add some hydro grains to the bottom of the pot.
This allows excess water to drain away and prevents sticky floors.

Pests

Sometimes spider mites or thrips appear on the leaves.
Gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth or use an organic spray.

Roots grow from soil

When the roots start to creep out of the bottom of the pot, your Sansevieria is ready to be repotted.
Choose a pot one size larger and use an airy potting soil such as our potting soil for aroids .
Repotting is best done in spring or early summer.

Brown leaf edges

Brown edges are often caused by air that is too dry or too little water.
Increase humidity by using a plant sprayer or placing a bowl of water nearby.
Give a little more water, but remain careful to avoid root rot.
