Caring for the Crassula Marnieriana Hottentot
Here you can learn more about how to care for a Crassula ?
Watering the Crassula Marnieriana Hottentot
With its thick and fleshy leaves it stores a lot of water. Because of this it does not need water often. When the soil is dry you can water it. Let it stand for 1 week first and then see if the soil is dry. You will see when it definitely needs water urgently when the leaves wrinkle. The drier and lighter the plant is, the more often it needs water.
How much light does the Crassula Marnieriana Hottentot need?
The Crassula Hottentot likes to be in the sun, so give it a spot where it gets at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. Be careful, the sun can be very strong in the summer months. If your plant is behind a window it can get very hot there, make sure your plant doesn't burn. If this is the case, it is better to move it a little further away from the window.
Repotting the Crassula Marnieriana Hottentot
Since it is a succulent and is therefore used to a nutrient-poor soil, you should not repot it every year. We recommend giving it some new soil, specially composed for succulents, every 2 years. Make sure it is a well-draining soil. If the soil retains a lot of water, the roots of the Crassula Hottentot can start to rot.
Power supply
The Hottentot grows a bit faster than an average succulent, so it can use more nutrition than other Crassulas. Be careful not to overfeed, as this can acidify the soil. We recommend adding extra nutrition once every 1 to 2 months.
Is the Crassula Marnieriana Hottentot poisonous ?
Probably. Why probably? There have been several studies done on it but they have always had conflicting results. We say it is probably poisonous because other species within the Crassula family have been shown to be poisonous. So it is best to keep it away from pets or small children.
Pot size
The Crassula Hottentot is sold in a pot with a diameter of 14cm. It is in a special hanging pot and is delivered with a hanger. This hanger is easy to remove.
