How to care for a ZZ - Zenzi

Watering ZZ - Zenzi

Make sure the soil of your ZZ Zenzi dries out slightly between waterings. Water approximately every 2 to 3 weeks, depending on the room temperature and humidity. Avoid allowing the plant to sit in standing water for extended periods, as this can cause root rot (read more in our blog about root rot in houseplants ).

Light requirements of ZZ - Zenzi

The ZZ Zenzi grows best in filtered light or partial shade. A spot near a window without direct sunlight is ideal. Even in dimly lit areas, your Zenzi will thrive, making it an excellent choice for offices or low-light spaces.

Common problems

Yellow leaves

Yellow leaves are often caused by overwatering or sudden temperature fluctuations. First, check that the potting soil isn't too wet and adjust your watering accordingly. A few weeks of drying out will help the roots recover.

Plant is dripping or wet

Drops on the leaves may be condensation or excess water leaking through the axils. Carefully wipe away any excess moisture to prevent mold growth. Ensure adequate air circulation and, if necessary, use a plant mister to maintain even humidity.

Unwanted bugs (pests)

Spider mites, thrips, and fungus gnats are rare in ZZ Zenzi, but always check the undersides of leaves when purchasing. If an infestation is starting, you can gently wipe the leaves with lukewarm water and a drop of mild dishwashing detergent. Repeat if necessary until all the bugs are gone.

Roots emerge from the bottom of the pot

Zamioculcas family plants have strong roots that grow into the potted space. Repot your Zenzi every 12 to 18 months in a larger pot from our collection of houseplant pots . Fresh, airy soil helps maintain healthy root growth.

Brown edges on leaves

Brown edges indicate low humidity or too much direct sunlight. Avoid placing the plant too close to radiators or direct midday sun. Increase the humidity by placing a bowl of water nearby, or use a hygrometer to monitor the climate.
