The name Platycerium probably doesn't mean much to you, so this plant chose an easier name: the Staghorn Fern . Derived from its beautiful leaves that sometimes look like horns due to their circular indentation in the middle and they can also grow up to 2 meters long. In addition, this plant is certainly not difficult to maintain.
Care of the Staghorn Fern
How much water does the Staghorn Fern need?
The Staghorn Fern is certainly not a big water drinker. It does like to be in a slightly moist soil all the time, so never let it dry out completely. But just like most other plants, it does not like wet feet. So make sure that there is not a lot of excess water left in the pot after watering. It has a special white layer on its leaves that causes it to emit less moisture along its leaves. This also makes it good at withstanding drier air. Be careful when watering that you try to avoid the leaves and water directly onto the soil.
How much light does the staghorn fern need?
The Beautiful Fern likes to be in a light place without too much indirect sunlight. A place in front of an Eastern or Western window is ideal for this plant. Place it preferably a few meters away from a southern window so that its leaves do not burn.
Ideal temperature for the Staghorn Fern
This plant is not winter hardy. It prefers a warm spot, preferably not below 15°C.
Repotting the Staghorn Fern
Since the Staghorn Fern is not such a fast grower, annual repotting is not necessary. Repotting every two years should be more than sufficient in most cases.
Is the Staghorn Fern poisonous?
This plant is not poisonous to humans or pets
