The Phlebodium better known as 'Blue Fern' or 'zinc fern' belongs to the family of ferns (what a surprise). This means that they like to be in a place where there is no direct sunlight. A spot in the (half) shade is optimal for the Blue Fern.

The Blue Fern naturally occurs in the treetops of various jungles, as an epiphyte. This means that it lives on other organisms but does not harm them. It therefore takes care of itself and therefore takes nutrients from its host.

Water

How much water does the Phlebodium need? Just like most other ferns, it likes to be in a continuously slightly moist soil. Make sure that no water remains at its roots. In the summer, it is best to give it a little water twice a week and in the winter once. You can easily test yourself whether you are giving too much water. After 5 days, stick your finger about 2 knuckles deep in the soil. If the soil still feels very wet there, then you should give it a little less water. If the soil is completely dried out, then you should give it a little more.

Light

The Zinc Fern is a houseplant that does not have many demands when it comes to light. Just avoid direct sunlight. This will cause burn marks on the leaves.

A spot with partial shade and indirect sunlight is perfect for this fern. We do recommend not to put it in a draughty place. This can significantly increase the chance of pests and diseases.

Temperature

He doesn't like the cold very much, so make sure he doesn't stand in a place that is colder than 10°C.

Toxic

Like most ferns it is not poisonous. Perfect for pets (or small children) who dare to nibble on the leaves.
