Caring for the Pachira Aquatica

When it comes to caring for the Pachira Aquatica, it's not demanding. It's an ideal choice for those who want to add a touch of greenery to their space but don't always have the time to care for it. So, beyond your home, it would also be a perfect fit for your office or student room. Read more about caring for it below.

How much water does the Pachira Aquatica need?

Since the Pachira Aquatica stores water in its stem, you should only water it when the soil is completely dry. So, when watering, be careful not to soak the soil, but keep it slightly moist. Watering once every two or three weeks is usually sufficient. If you forget to water, the leaves will turn brown and/or yellow.

How much light does the Pachira Aquatica need?

The Pachira Aquatica prefers a spot with indirect sunlight, but it can also tolerate low light. So, it's not at all fussy about where you place it. If you prefer to place it in the shade, the plant will still grow quickly, but with slightly fewer leaves. Also, be careful not to leave it in direct sunlight for too long, as this can alter the color of the leaves.

Brown or yellow leaves on the Pachira Aquatica

The Pachira Aquatica normally has dark green leaves. These can change to brown or yellow for various reasons. Overwatering can not only cause root rot but also discoloration of the leaves. Furthermore, underwatering can cause the leaves to become too dry, causing them to turn brown or yellow. As mentioned, the Pachira Aquatica prefers indirect sunlight; if you do want to place it in direct sunlight, it shouldn't be exposed to it for too long. This can also cause brown and/or yellow spots to develop if the leaves become too dry.

Repotting Pachira Aquatica

By repotting the Pachira Aquatica regularly, you give it more room to grow. Place it in a new pot with fresh potting soil . Make sure you don't expose it to direct sunlight immediately after repotting and leave it undisturbed, as it will be a little more fragile after repotting.

Is the Pachira Aquatica poisonous?

Pachira Aquatica is not poisonous to humans, but for pets like cats and dogs, it's important to ensure they don't ingest any of the leaves. This can cause vomiting and a temporary loss of appetite.
